This classic 1974 Kenworth W924 is owned by C. W. Caulfield of Gisborne.
The truck has spent time with a number of owners and has spent most of
its life as a logging truck including a stint in the colours of the
well known Mike Lambert fleet. It was the first fibreglass bonnet
Kenworth in New Zealand and would have been a considered a 'flash
truck' when it was new. The Kenworth is powered by a 320hp CAT engine
and has a 15-speed Roadranger transmission. In just over 30 years it
has clocked up more than 4 million km, not bad when you consider the
conditions and types of roads it has driven over in its lifetime.
Painted in a bright yellow and set off with some splendid murals it's
hard to imagine the truck has had such a long and hard life. The
detailed murals were painted by a family member, D.V. Caulfield of
'Creative Art' in Rotorua and only took four days to complete.
The truck features a long list of eXtras and a number of them were
sourced directly from the States. These include chrome headlight
covers, chrome grille and air cleaner surrounds, stainless guards, twin
polished fuel tanks and a polished gull wing bumper. The sleeper is
currently being used as a toolbox and is yet to be connected to the
cab.
