'RAMBO'S'
Freightliner Argosy

By Dominic Teahan

Past Features

It's been almost 3 years since we featured Steve Ramsbotham's (aka Rambo) Peterbilt 379EXHD and this superb looking Freightliner Argosy is Rambo's latest unit to go on the road. The cabover is a contrast to the bonneted Peterbilt and was not the first choice for Rambo's new purchase. Rambo actually wanted a Kenworth but the price wasn't right and because of the high demand it would have meant waiting another 6 months. The result is a well thought out combination and gives an insight of an owner and driver extraordinaire.

The Freightliner has been fitted with numerous eXtras including a host by Custom Truck Chrome of Silverdale, Auckland. These include the Memphis Express plate which has been laser cut over a reflective backing, an after market grille, Freightliner skirts on the side of the cab, alloy panelling above the front guards and additional maker lights on the sun visor. The Argosy also features a twin 6" chassis mounted exhaust system and vertical air rams that were designed by Rambo. Finishing off the unit are four 9" offset alloy rims that according to Rambo do wonders for the steering. Inside the cab is a 20" flat screen TV.

With its Memphis Express theme and stunning graphics emblazoned on the truck's curtains it's not hard to see the impact that Rambo's USA experience has had on him as a driver. Furthermore the Argosy has been decorated with some Maori flavour on the side of the cab and aero-kit reflecting Rambo's background.

'Memphis Express' can be seen hauling around much of the North island typically hauling hay and is double shifted and does up to 1100kms a day. Power comes in the form of a 550hp Detroit engine and 18 speed fuller transmission driven into 46 Meritor rears spinning at 4.11 ratio.

A special thanks to Wayne who was driving the spectacular combination at the time of these photos. Congratulations to Rambo for his thought in presentation and delivering yet another eXtraordinary truck.
