This impressive black 1984 W924AR is owned by Derek of Ferndale Farms Ltd of Maramarua. XT caught up with the driver - Wilson at the Pukekohe show in January and were fortunate to get photos of this unique ol' skool Kenworth.
Nicknamed "Back from Hell" the truck started life as a T.D. Haulage Kenworth as a chip liner and then was converted to a part time tow truck for the fleet. Powered by a reconditioned Detroit 8v92 430hp motor which has done in excess of 1.9 million kms. The big black tractor unit usually hauls a low loader carting diggers and other company equipment but sometimes can even be seen with a milk tanker trailer behind it.
Featuring an ex-Uhlenberg sleeper and stainless work by Chris Stanley including exhaust shrouds and side panelling complete with laser cut KW emblems, and a custom interior designed and modified by driver "Wilson" who put the tongue and groove floor and custom hand written labels for the gauges. Future plans for the unit include new paintwork and air brush graphics to replace the 'motorbike decal' on the bonnet.
A big thanks to owner Derek for the opportunity to feature his Kenny and Wilson for his time and effort in presentation.
